Work
Katie obtained her LLM in Legal Practice and Advanced Drafting in 2017 and joined JNP Legal as a Trainee Solicitor. She qualified as a Solicitor in 2019 and has since built a wealth of experience in the Care Department. Katie briefly worked for a Local Authority before recommencing her career with JNP Legal in 2021. In 2022, Katie achieved Law Society Children Panel status and is now an Associate Solicitor within the Care Department, bringing both experience and dedication to supporting children and families through complex legal matters.
Since obtaining her Law Society Children Panel Accreditation, Katie has focused on representing children in proceedings, with a diverse caseload that includes representing the Children’s Guardian in Care Orders, Supervision Orders, and Child Arrangements Proceedings.
Before specialising in representing children, Katie represented parent clients and gained valuable experience working in both public and private family law. She has previously worked within a local authority, which provides her with a unique insight into care proceedings and enhances her ability to approach cases with a well-rounded perspective.
In addition to her legal practice, Katie contributes to the development of IT systems and workflows to improve departmental efficiency. She also plays an active role in mentoring junior solicitors, assisting Louise Last in supporting their growth and contributing to the ongoing development of the team.
Katie is committed to making a meaningful difference, whether advocating for a child’s best interests or guiding families through challenging times with compassion.
Katie’s experience includes:
- Child Protection Proceedings including Care, Supervision and Special Guardianship Orders: Katie has represented both arents and Guardian in all public law proceedings, together with prospective Special Guardians.
- Child Arrangements Orders, Prohibited Steps and Specific Issue Orders: Katie has represented Guardians under rule 16.4 in private family matters to include complex matters whereby serious allegations are made by one parent against the other.
- High-Pressure Case Management: Managing caseloads and deadlines and maintaining a high standard of client care service.
- Supervision and Training: Katie assists Louise Last to mentor junior solicitors and trainees to ensure the Care Department maintains its high standards of expertise.
Interests
Outside of work, Katie makes pottery and loves trying different glaze combinations. She has two young dogs who keep her active and she enjoys exploring West Wales with her young family.
