Kate Morey: From Paralegal to Partner
“JNP Legal genuinely invests in its people. I’ve been supported at every stage of my career, from my first role as a Paralegal through to becoming a Partner.”

Finding a career in law
Kate’s interest in law began at comprehensive school, following a work experience placement at a local solicitors’ firm. The varied nature of legal work quickly appealed to her, leading her to study Law at university. While qualifying as a solicitor was always a strong possibility, it was towards the end of her undergraduate degree, supported by further work placements, that she made the decision to pursue qualification.
Joining JNP Legal
Kate joined JNP Legal in January 2012 as a Paralegal, attracted by the firm’s clear commitment to client care, community engagement and staff development. From the outset, it was evident that the firm placed real value on developing its people alongside delivering high-quality legal services.
Career progression and development
Kate began her Training Contract in January 2013 and qualified as a Solicitor in January 2015. Her career has progressed steadily within the firm, with promotion to Associate Solicitor in October 2021, Senior Associate and Head of the Nelson Office in October 2024, and Partner in October 2025.
She has remained within the Civil Litigation Department throughout her career, while also gaining valuable experience across other departments during her early years, including Lifetime Planning and police station representation. These opportunities helped broaden her legal knowledge and shape her long-term specialism.
Training, support and accreditation
JNP Legal has actively supported Kate in developing her expertise, including achieving specialist accreditations in complex personal injury and clinical negligence. Regular appraisals, ongoing training opportunities and encouragement to pursue professional development have been central to her progression.
Culture and working environment
For Kate, one of the firm’s greatest strengths is its culture. Many senior leaders trained and progressed within JNP Legal themselves, creating a strong sense of continuity, mentorship and shared experience. She now finds it particularly rewarding to support and train colleagues at earlier stages of their careers.
Advice for aspiring lawyers
Kate’s advice to those considering a career in law is to gain as much practical experience as possible. She believes work experience is invaluable in understanding the realities of legal practice and encourages aspiring lawyers not to be afraid to ask questions or seek support. According to Kate, learning never stops, and being open to guidance is key to building confidence and capability.
Looking ahead
Kate is excited to continue developing her role while working alongside a supportive, collaborative team. Providing exceptional client care remains at the heart of her work and her future at JNP Legal.
